Hospitality has always been a reflection of humanity: how we gather, how we care for one another, and how we build belonging. But as our world becomes faster, noisier, and more fragmented, people are experiencing a profound erosion of community the shared sense of “us” that once anchored our industry and our lives. This seminar explores why community is not a “nice-to-have,” but a foundational human need deeply tied to wellbeing, identity, creativity, and resilience. Through the lenses of sociology, psychology, culture, and hospitality practice, we’ll examine how disconnection shows up in our teams, our guests, and ourselves and why rebuilding community is essential to healing our industry and navigating the world we are all inheriting. Rather than offering tactics or trends, this session returns to the fundamental questions: What does it mean to belong? What happens when we don’t? And how does hospitality reclaim its role as a builder of community in a time when people need it more than ever?
